Pay to Forward

To anyone that thinks that forwarding an email will net you money: It won’t. Its funny to me how these emails work their way around the internet; it is like they are on a 3 month rotation or something. I bring this up because another one just made its way back into my inbox. Not that I blame anyone that tries it. Who wouldn’t want to see if Microsoft will really pay $245 for someone to click the little forward button? I could be a millionaire by now! I dunno. Maybe I am the one that is wrong. Perhaps everyone else is getting rich laughing at me because I’m too stupid to forward on a simple email.

Ignorance is bliss I guess…

New Theme!

As if you didn’t notice! I am working on my own theme. Even though I really liked the theme I was using, I just didn’t feel right using someone else’s. So you can see the results of my work so far. There are some kinks that need to be worked out, as usual, but hopefully I will get that done this week. If you have any suggestions, leave a comment. Any input is appreciated.

FranUnderFire.com

So I am a closet Aggie fan. I’ll admit it. So I guess that means that I’m not in the closet anymore, and its not what you expect when you take into account that I grew up surrounded by Texas Tech fans, and now surrounded by t.u. fans. I didn’t even realize I was a fan until I visted Kyle Field and witnessed Reggie take it to O.U. as a freshman. The environment down there is insane!

So anyways, I was checking out some sports sites today and stumbled across a link that was only to be expected: FranUnderFire.com. After all of the websites that have been created to encourage the firing of coaches, this site is gearing up to follow in those footsteps. Currently, it just presents Coach Fran’s stats as the Aggie head coach, and I must admit its not pretty. What should have been a return-to-glory season has now turned into a string of embarassments. I can only hope that they pull it together in time to beat Tech, and at least give t.u. a challenge. If not, I will be eating ALOT of crow, and thats something that noone enjoys doing.

Agent Tim

Ok. So I feel like my blog is a waste of space after seeing Agent Tim’s website. This guy is a teenager that has taken it upon himself to create a blog about politics, religion, and a plethora of other things. Disregarding the fact that he is just a teenager, the blog is pretty amazing. A 15 year-old that is capable of putting these thoughts together and writing them down, and add to that fact that the site is very well designed…Amazing!

Check out his site if you get a chance. Its definitely worth the time, and he is not afraid to post what he sees as truth. My only hope is that my blog could evolve into something as educational and well thought out as his site. AND he uses wordpress!

Gobble!

For those of you that don’t know, I let my inner geek out this past weekend and went down to Austin for the 2nd annual Linucon. I’m not quite sure what to say about it other than Gobble. (Inside joke) Anyways, we got to hear Eric Raymond talk on a number of different panels, all of which were great. I didn’t realize that he had been doing quite a bit of work with gpsd lately, and his talks have convinced me to purchase a GPS device. So if anyone has a couple of big bills laying around somewhere, feel free to PayPal it to me.

We also attended an excellent panel about the hercules emulator, given by one of its authors, Jay Maynard (Note: Remember alot of these guys do not get alot of sunlight nor social interaction). It was one of the better panels, even though it was put together in a matter of hours. (Joe had written to him on Thursday I believe to encourage him to give the panel)

The rest of the panels were not quite what I expected: “Linux on the Desktop” turned out to be a 40 minute history lesson on how Moore’s Law applies to RAM. Trust me, I did not need a lesson in math or computer history, and was highly disappointed in the outcome of the discussion. One of the panelists would not relinquish control of the floor, leaving the other two (Stu Green and Eric Raymond) staring aimlessly at the wall for much of the conversation. I would suggest next year that there be a panel for computer history and one for Linux on the desktop, that way all will know what they are going to hear about.

Some good eatin’ did take place though. We again visited Salt Lick and ate more than we should. Its all you can eat BBQ for $14.95. What more can you ask for? Hopefully David will post the pictures from there.

Even though we had laughed all weekend, the best came on Sunday as we drove back. We were lucky enough to overhear the conversation of a couple of rather large bikers (Harley, mind you) in Llano. These two men did not care who heard what they were talking about and their tales grew by the minute. Out of respect of the readers of this blog (no matter how small of number that may be), I will not discuss what they were talking about, but it brought Caleb to tears. The funniest part was hearing them say things in unison. Imagine two, monotone voices telling a story with both of them finishing each others sentences. Classic. But its probably one of those thing that you just had to be there to appreciate…

In other news: Lori’s apartment fell apart around her on Saturday night, or at least the ceiling did. Seems that her upstairs neighbor had a broken toilet and did not realize it, causing some major flooding that caused serious problems for the two floors below them. The apartment people are working on getting it all cleaned up right now, but who knows how long that will take. For all those renters out there: Make sure you have insurance!
