asu realignment

For those that do not know, it appears that some people are trying to realign Angelo State University with texas tech university, a move that has been met with some support, some opposition, and a lot of questions answered with vague answers, if any.

I won’t post my opinion on this yet, but I will say that in hopes of getting more information as to why the bill was proposed, I went to the website of the Coalition for ASU’s Future. All I can say is “Wow!” Can they actually expect anyone to take them seriously with a website like that? I cannot believe that someone would want to put that forward in order to try and garner support for such a big issue as this.

For those that know me, often times my thoughts on a company are made or broken by their website. Is it judgemental? Perhaps. But I believe it can say a lot about a company and how they want to project themselves to new customers. The Coalition’s website is…disappointing…at best.

I hope to post some more thoughts on this issue in the coming weeks. (That gives me some leeway as to when I have to post about it again.)

Feel free to leave your thoughts on this, but I would ask that they be somewhat educated or at least have some thought behind them.

Yeah, that’s a pretty pimpin’ website. And you realize you practically plagiarized my post about March Madness on Demand.

hey there. i have no idea why i’m commenting on this post but for some reason, i had a little time and went to the website that was suggested. wow. i’m very uncomputer savy, but i believe i could have come up with that website in the 3rd grade. i know, for you, it would be from birth but some of us aren’t as talented as you. anyhow, hope you’re enjoying married life as much as i am and i enjoy your very occasional posts. have a wonderful day.

I can’t make an educated comment on the design of the website (as bad as it may be), however, the whole realignment has a fishy smell to it. Questions that I would like answered would be -

Will the management of the Carr Endowment be moved to a firm in San Angelo or Lubbock that happens to be owned by friends of Rep. Darby or Sen Duncan or other members of the “Coalition”? (some management fees are in the 2% neighborhood - that would be approx. $1.2 million)

The coaliton sure does have quite a bit of faith in their “negotiating” abilities (no name change, no increased tuition, etc) and in the nine member board of regents at Tech (7 alumni and 2 Lubbock business people)

Since Texas Tech has no access to the Permanent University Fund (only UT and A&M), where were they planning on getting more money? (Oh yeah, they just announced that they’re also going to have to have an ammendment to the Texas constitution pass for ASU to be able to receive the same funding they already recieve)

One other thing - interesting that Tech announced on Wednesday that they are going to be doing $54 - $61 Million in athletic renovations over the next few years - which happens to be the size of the Carr Endowment….

    I remain a conspiracy theorist….but feel like it’s a losing battle.

Well, after reading Jess’s comment, I realized I didn’t have anything worth saying that would stand up to those points.

Although, I can say that it’s obvious how you stand on the issue, Slade… since you didn’t even Capitalize Texas Tech University.

Did I forget to do that? What was I thinking? I guess I should fix that, but then it would require me to do some work.

    What are your thoughts BK?

Um, don’t you make money designing websites on the side? That’s like the shoe shine boy telling someone his loafers are dirty…or the barber telling Slade he needs to buy a comb… wait, Slade DOES need to buy a comb! ;-)

I agree on one thing… tech sucks (capitalization omitted on purpose.) It’s sad that ASU is going down this path. Will ASU change its admission requirement to align with tech’s? The last I heard, a heartbeat and a case of beer made you eligible to be one of tech’s finest.

Motl will not be pleased at this “classic deadlock”… ( o)(O )
